Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, alongside scoliosis, Dante has spent much of his life in and out of hospital. He has endured multiple surgeries and more than 90 broken bones at a very young age.

Challenges that would overwhelm most have instead shaped Dante’s outlook on life, one defined by positivity, determination and a limitless mindset.

In 2018, Dante’s mum, Rachel, approached Variety for support when his wheelchair proved unsuitable for his small frame. Everyday tasks were harder than they needed to be, restricting his independence.

Variety funded a bespoke, lightweight wheelchair, designed by Dante himself, giving him not only comfort, but freedom, confidence and the ability to engage more fully with the world around him.

Speaking about the impact of Variety’s support, Dante commented, “If Variety didn’t exist, I feel like my life would be completely different. Variety have helped me so much, whether it comes to being more active both physically and socially, coming out of my shell.”

Variety have helped me so much, whether it comes to being more active both physically and socially.”

Inspired by his optimism and strength, Variety invited Dante to become a Young Ambassador. Since then, he has channelled his energy into helping others. Visiting children in hospital, raising awareness and speaking about his experiences, Dante became a powerful advocate for disabled and disadvantaged young people across the UK. His message is simple yet impactful, “there are no disabilities, only abilities”.

Dante’s impact has been extraordinary. He has helped raise over £30,000 to fund a Variety Sunshine Coach, providing vital transport for children who would otherwise miss out on school trips, activities and experiences.

He has also played a central role in Variety’s campaigns, including bringing joy to children at Christmas events, understanding first-hand how difficult that time can be for those who are unwell or in hospital.

In 2019, his efforts were recognised on a national stage when he received the Child of Courage award at the Pride of Britain Awards. It was a moment that celebrated not just his personal strength, but his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

In 2022, Dante captured the hearts of the nation on Britain’s Got Talent with his original comedy song, “Don’t feel sorry for me”. Delivered with wit, honesty and confidence, his performance earned four yeses from the judges and widespread praise across social media.

Even if you’ve got a disability or a disadvantage, you can do anything you put your mind to.”

Dante said, “All my life I’ve had people going, ‘Your life must be so difficult. I feel bad that you have to go through that. If I could swap places with you, I would.’ I wrote that song for everyone else to inspire them that even if you’ve got a disability or a disadvantage, you can do anything you put your mind to. You just need to figure out a way to keep yourself upbeat and keep moving forward.”

It was a powerful moment that showcased not only his talent, but his ability to challenge perceptions through humour and authenticity.

Dante continues to speak openly about accessibility, independence and equality. His experiences have given him a perspective that resonates with audiences of all ages, encouraging people to look beyond limitations and recognise potential.

“Your disability or your disadvantage does not define who you are, it’s your personality…You’re not alone.”

Through Variety, Dante has been able to thrive, and in turn, help transform the lives of others.

There are currently 54,000 children like Dante waiting for wheelchairs in the UK. Tens of thousands more lack the specialist equipment they need.

With your continued support, Variety can help ensure more children have access to the equipment, opportunities and confidence they need to reach their full potential.
