Patrons of Variety

Variety has always been known for its entertainment roots and that is at the heart of “Patrons of Variety”, which will encourage many highly talented artists, established and new, and from all branches of showbusiness, to join Variety.

Alongside the artists who already support the charity, they will help to ensure that Variety’s future is as bright as its present and past and will enable it to support even more inspirational children and young people all round the country.

Patrons of Variety

“Patrons of Variety” was founded by Harold Tillman CBE and is jointly Chaired with him by Trevor Green, co-owner of Entertainment Film Distributors Group and the 2014 Chief Barker of Variety, the Children’s Charity. “Patrons of Variety” will significantly fund the work of Variety, enhancing the lives of many thousands of children and young people throughout the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged through the wide range of activities for which Variety is widely known and highly respected.

Harold Tillman and Dynamo

“Patrons of Variety” was inaugurated at the end of September 2014 by Dynamo, the internationally renowned magician. Harold Tillman brought him together with Irvine Sellar, who created and built the Shard. The result was Dynamo’s sensational levitation above the Shard as the finale to his Watch TV series; it captivated millions across the globe. As part of the programme, Dynamo visited young people supported by Variety at Mudchute Children’s Community Centre in East London. The children were not only treated to Dynamo’s magic at the centre, but also to a VIP visit with him to the Shard to see the view from the highest building in Europe. Dynamo was so enthusiastic about and moved by Variety’s work that he agreed to become the first Patron, and donated a whole evening’s performance to the charity to help it fundraise.

The next stage of “Patrons of Variety” is now under way, with Joint Chairmen Harold and Trevor seeking philanthropic and caring people to help them achieve the aims of this high profile and ambitious project. Patrons are asked to commit £10,000 per year for a minimum of three years. Each Patron will receive a number of very special benefits, including invitations to attend Variety’s famous, glittering events as well as exclusive events designed only for those who have given such a strong commitment. Above all, Patrons will enjoy the opportunity to get closely involved in and be truly inspired by Variety’s work.

Patrons may take part personally, through their companies or through their Trusts. For more details of Patrons and other benefits, please contact Variety on 0207 428 8129.
