Without a wheelchair, he would have no independent mobility. But the standard NHS children’s wheelchair is too heavy for him so Variety agreed to provide a lightweight one with a hand cycle attachment which enables him to tackle more difficult terrain, like grass, and so be outside more, which he loves.

The new lightweight wheelchair has not only given Jaecob more freedom, but the exercise he gets from enjoying it has greatly improved his strength and enabled him to join in on family bike rides.

When Jaecob’s mum wrote to thank Variety she said:

“I’m sorry to say we have not got many pictures of him on his hand cycle chair, because he doesn’t stay still on it long enough to get one.”
