Broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two in September, Variety’s BBC Lifeline Appeal was presented by Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy and shared the stories of Dante, Jacob and Mikaeel, three disabled young people whose lives have been transformed through support from Variety.

The appeal showcased how access to specialist equipment, including wheelchairs and walkers, can transform lives, helping young people gain greater independence, build confidence and take part in activities they love.

In the appeal, we met Mikaeel, six, whose specialist walker from Variety enabled him to walk for the first time. The walker has opened up new opportunities for Mikaeel to enjoy his childhood, including playing football with his friends rather than watching from the sidelines.

Dante, who has brittle bone disease, received a specially adapted lightweight wheelchair from Variety which helped him develop greater confidence and independence.

Dante has since gone on to win a Pride of Britain Award, perform on Britain’s Got Talent and become an advocate for disabled young people.

Meanwhile Jacob shared how his sports wheelchair has enabled him to play wheelchair rugby, providing greater comfort, improving his mental health and helping him find a sense of belonging through the sport he loves.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, watched and shared the appeal, and a special thank you to St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation for your generous match funding.
