Thanks to the generosity of The Elizabeth and Prince Zaiger Trust, the children and staff of Lampard Community School in Barnstaple now have a brand new Variety Sunshine Coach. This is the 17th Variety Sunshine Coach to be funded by The trust.

Karen Rogers, Headteacher commented:

“The students, staff, parents and governors of Lampard Community School would like to thank The Elizabeth and Prince Zaiger Trust, Variety, the Children’s Charity and all of its supporters for their extremely generous donation of a brand new coach.

The Sunshine Coach will allow our students to access many more off-site opportunities than they are currently able to do. It will be used every day to take the children to various educational and sporting events, as well as taking our upper school students to our local off-site partners and work experience placements. Many of our students have communication and interaction difficulties and by having more opportunities to be out in the community, they can further develop and reinforce social and life skills learnt within the school environment and transfer these skills to real-life activities.

Those students with limited mobility due to difficulties with balance and coordination will be able to better access resources and activities out in the community, all of which would be reduced or curtailed without the benefit of a Sunshine coach.

It will make a huge difference to the education and development of all students at Lampard for many years to come.”

Trustee of The Elizabeth and Prince Zaiger Trust, Mr. Robin Keyte said:

“The trust is delighted to again be working with Variety to support another Sunshine Coach. The children of the Lampard Community School were very excited to see the school’s new Sunshine Coach which we are sure will be very well used. The trust has supported many Sunshine Coaches over the years and has a long standing relationship with Variety reflecting the high regard we have for the work they do in helping children.”
