The duo took on the challenge to raise funds for Variety. The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon, with 60,000 runners taking part. The route starts on the Central Motorway in Newcastle and finishes on The Leas in South Shields. This year’s event hosted Sir Mo Farah’s last ever competitive race.

Jess and Rob completed the 13.1 miles in the 25-degree heat. Despite the unseasonable warmth, the pair were in high spirits as they completed Jess’s first half marathon together.

Rob and Jess about to start the Great North Run

The reason my dad and I took part in the GNR 2023 is to support the amazing charity Variety. Although it was tough challenge running 21km, it was certainly worth it. It was amazing to cross the finish line knowing that all our hard work has paid off and will help disabled and disadvantaged children and young people around the UK. This was my first ever half marathon and it was so exciting, especially to be representing such a special charity like Variety!
