More than 1,000 children were treated to a Variety Great Day Out at The North Pole Bash, hosted at Gulliver’s World Theme Park in Warrington on 28 November.

Organised by the Dr Michael Josephson MBE Charity Ball, in partnership with Variety, the Children’s Charity, the event brought together children from schools and organisations across North West England for a day of Christmas magic and vital respite.

Many of the children attending live with disabilities, complex health conditions and profound learning difficulties, while others face difficult personal circumstances. For many families, opportunities like this Great Day Out are rare, making the chance to enjoy a carefree, inclusive celebration particularly meaningful.

Now in its fourth year, the North Pole Bash gave children exclusive access to Gulliver’s World attractions, a live Christmas pantomime and a lively festive party. The highlight of the day came when every child was welcomed into Father Christmas’ Grotto to choose a gift.

The event was made possible thanks to funds raised at the annual Dr Michael Josephson MBE Charity Ball, with support from Lumistella, the makers of Elf on the Shelf and North West retailer, Home Bargains.

Each child left with a goody bag, generously donated by Lumistella and Home Bargains, containing their very own Elf and a chocolate selection box.

Special guests including The Elf on the Shelf and Gully, the Gulliver’s World mascot joined the celebrations throughout the day.

Seeing the smiles on the faces of these incredible children reminds us all why we do this, to give them a day of happiness, excitement and a chance to just be kids.”

Dr Michael Josephson MBE commented, “The North Pole Bash is one of the most rewarding days of the year. Seeing the smiles on the faces of these incredible children reminds us all why we do this, to give them a day of happiness, excitement and a chance to just be kids.

“I’m truly grateful to everyone who helped make this day possible, from our sponsors and volunteers to the teams at Variety, the Children’s Charity, Lumistella, and Home Bargains, and Gulliver’s World.”

The Dr Michael Josephson MBE Farewell Ball will take place in Manchester on 14 March 2026. Find out more here.
