Born with bilateral cerebral palsy, Izzie’s parents were told when she was just 22 months old that she might never walk, talk, or do anything independently. Today, she is an active sportswoman, a judo champion, and a passionate advocate for disability inclusion. Izzie has made history by winning gold medal for Great Britain at the European adaptive kata championships.

Variety first came into Izzie’s life when she was four, and since then, Variety have supported her with a manual wheelchair and recently a Tri-Ride electrical attachment. This transforms her chair into an electric one, allowing her to travel longer distances without fatigue.

“It means that when we’re on big family days out, my arms aren’t getting tired and I can stay as independent as possible for as long as possible,” Izzie explains.

“Without Variety, I wouldn’t have the independence I have now.”

Sport plays a huge role in Izzie’s life, especially judo, she says: “On the mat, I feel no different to anyone else.” Izzie is determined to challenge misconceptions about disability, especially in sport.
