Michael invited some very special guests Andy and Susanne Robinson of the Broome Family Charitable Trust who have supported Michael with a donation to the cause, and Tony Robinson of Progeny Wealth, who is a Patron of Variety and is also on the MJ Charity Ball Grants Committee.

The Michael Josephson MBE Charity Ball is held to raise funds for disabled and disadvantaged children and local charities including Variety, the Children’s Charity, who are honoured to be a beneficiary of the Ball.

This brand-new Sunshine Coach will bring joy to the children at Pear Tree High School and offer lasting opportunities for many years to come.

For many of the pupils, public transport is not a safe option. This gift will empower pupils at Pear Tree High School to explore places they would otherwise never visit, experience new learning environments, and gain life skills outside of the classroom.

Dr Michael Josephson MBE (Variety’s Chief Barker)

“I am delighted to support Pear Tree School with this Variety Sunshine Coach and to bring a ray of sunshine to children’s faces on their recent trip to the Bridgewater Hall”

Pear Tree High School is a new purpose built SEND school in the heart of Cheadle Hulme; with state-of-the-art facilities providing an innovative environment suitable for the learning needs of all students.

Pear Tree specializes in supporting students with autism, severe learning difficulties, and associated needs, specifically for young people aged 11-18.

The school boasts a vibrant environment which caters for and supports over 130 children in the Greater Manchester area. A high proportion of students come from areas of significant deprivation, with 45% of the pupils qualifying for pupil premium support.

Pear Tree High School were delighted to welcome Michael and his guests for their Sunshine Coach Presentation, as they celebrated another important moment: the school’s first ever Summer Fair.

It’s safe to say the Fair was a huge success. It was lovely to see so many families join in, with a lot of laughter and competition spotted over on the game’s stalls.

Everybody enjoyed their visit, their treats and prizes and the hot dogs went down a treat; the tin-can alley was booming, and the hook-a-duck pool was much fun. It was a fantastic, unforgettable day full of smiley, glittering faces!

Michael and his guests were delighted to meet and greet the pupils and staff at the popular event. A fantastic day, enjoyed by all – and right at the end of term.

Katie Jones, Head Teacher:

“We will utilize the coach regularly because our students need to engage with the community to develop vital life skills. These outings—whether visiting shops or participating in community projects with their dedicated staff—are crucial for helping them build confidence and independence. Each experience empowers them to gain the skills necessary to thrive in a complex world. The coach also opens doors to career opportunities within the community, offering our students a glimpse of what’s possible and allowing them to access supported work experience opportunities. Thank you for your kind support.”
