Variety, the Children’s Charity held their Quiz night at the Riviera Hotel in Alum Chine to raise funds for underprivileged children in the area needing a warm winter coat. Variety Patron and Quiz Master, Retired Air Commodore Ricardo Cobelli OBE helped the Wessex Committee to reach a superb sum of £550.

Chair of Variety Wessex, Frances Cornelius advised that she first became aware of many hundreds of children locally walking to school on cold winter mornings without socks, underwear and warm winter coats about six years ago. She was made aware of the problem by a Governor of one of the schools that Variety had invited on a special day out to The New Forest Wildlife Centre.

Since then Variety Wessex has endeavoured to raise several hundred pounds each year to meet the needs of these children. Several caring supporters have been very generous by giving Variety donations specifically for this purpose.

Many thanks to all who attended and helped on the night.
