Ayda is a happy little girl who is three years old and loves colouring and nursery rhymes. Ayda has Autism and is non-verbal – she requires constant supervision to keep her safe. This includes environments that others might take for granted, like the family car or her bedroom at home.

Ayda’s mum, Alex, said:

“Ayda is an escape artist – a little Houdini! Being non-verbal, she is so quiet and can slip away as soon as you take your eyes off her.”

After a terrifying accident where Ayda escaped and fell into a nearby lake, the family now need to take absolutely every precaution to keep Ayda safe and this includes the car.

“Ayda would manage to wriggle out of her seat whilst I was driving, or she would get frustrated and bang her head, which is awful to see and horrendous when I can’t stop in time to prevent her doing it.”

Ayda’s occupational therapist recommended a specialist car seat to ensure she could be kept secure and comfortable on car journey’s. That’s when Alex applied to Variety for a Specialist Equipment Grant.

Thanks to Variety, Ayda was gifted a specially designed car seat that changed everything. “Now Ayda is safe and secure. She can’t wriggle out and harm herself anymore. It’s been life-changing getting her the seat. I can’t thank the charity enough. Thanks to Variety, my amazing Ayda is safe during car journeys.”
