On 7th December, A Variety Sunshine Coach was donated to Everton in the Community by Ex Everton Player ‘Duncan Ferguson’ and now Everton first-team coach in his testimonial year.

Duncan Cowan Ferguson is a Scottish former footballer. He was nicknamed “Big Dunc” and is a Legend to the Everton Football club.

The Goodison favourite was on hand at Finch Farm with the Executive Chair of Everton in the Community, Professor Denise Barrett Baxendale, members of his testimonial committee and representatives from the Variety to welcome a group of local schoolchildren, who were using the brand-new minibus for the first time.

“It was always the intention that any funds raised from the testimonial year would fund a Variety Sunshine Coach”

Duncan was aware that a large number of young people find it extremely difficult to access public transport and it is one of the most significant reasons that prevent them from accessing sport and physical activity as well as educational opportunities and a Variety Sunshine Coach would help this problem is so many ways.

Duncan said:

“I can’t thank the Everton fans enough and the help of the testimonial committee for what they’ve done, donating all of this money that’s allowed us to do this, it makes me a proud Evertonian.

The coach is going to be a brilliant for the local community and it’s fantastic that we can help in getting these young people out and about, allowing them to see different parts of the city. Hopefully this coach will give children the chance to attend sessions and events that they may not have been able to previously.

I look forward to seeing it on the streets of Merseyside and learning about all of the people it will benefit.”

Duncan Ferguson and Mr Charlie Diakou, Vice Chairman of Variety Merseyside Committee presented the Sunshine Coach to ‘Everton in the Community’.
