‘What You Leave Behind’ is a true story of family discovery that spans three generations. From wartime Shanghai under Japanese internment to modern day London, the book details his journey to uncover the life of his long-lost grandfather. Along the way, he also reconciles his own deeply rooted questions of self-acceptance, family legacy and mortality, and having been left childless by circumstance. The author believes men in his situation have difficulty sharing their feelings on the subject.

Nick Pourgourides’ first book was a successful biography of the late British actor Kenneth More, described as “deeply touching” by Stephen Fry and “a huge treat” by Dame Joanna Lumley OBE.

Nick has been a loyal supporter of Variety for years. As well as donating a portion of the proceeds of his previous book, he also completed a 200-mile cycle through Variety’s Pedal for a Purpose campaign.

Nick said, “Variety has been a charity close to my heart for some time. It made perfect sense to me to donate all proceeds to continue to help raise awareness of Variety’s work supporting disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK.
