We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of showbusiness lawyer and former Variety Chief Barker, Richard Freeman.

Richard was a kind and towering figure, greatly respected by all those he encountered.

For Variety he was enormously pivotal, and involved for over 30 years. He was Chairman of the Sunshine Coach Committee, set up the charity’s Wills and Legacy Committee, and became an International Vice President of Variety International.

In 2001, Richard was appointed as Variety’s Chief Barker, stating: “Being Chief Barker is a tremendous compliment and challenge.  I intend to do everything in my power to continue the fine tradition of Variety Club.”

Richard’s commitment and generosity has helped change the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all at Variety.

Richard’s funeral will be held on Monday 16th January at Guilford Crematorium. A wake will follow at the Three Horseshoes in his home village of Thursley.
