In 2018 Duncan Syers celebrated a quarter of a century of involvement with Variety, the Children’s Charity. This long association started back when he became a member of the Yorkshire Committee in 1993 and by 1996 he was instrumental in setting up one of the charity’s most successful events, the annual Yorkshire Property Awards. Twenty one years after it was first launched, this event goes from strength to strength and raised almost £140,000 for disabled and disadvantage children in 2017.
Duncan had already been Chairman of Variety’s largest regional committee twice when he was invited to became a Trustee of the national charity in January 2016. He subsequently took on additional responsibilities as Chair of the Regions and Chair of the Administration Committee and on January 1st 2018 he became Chief Barker.
Outside of Variety, Duncan is a chartered accountant and has spent most of his career working as a PLC Finance Director in the UK and Europe. He is married with two grown up children and lives in Yorkshire.
