Variety Ambassador Jill Scott has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list, in recognition of her service to women’s football.
Jill, who plays as a midfielder for Manchester City and the England national team, has won 146 caps for the Lionesses during a 13-year international career that has seen her play in two World Cup semi-finals and a European Championship final. She is widely credited with helping England reach the Women’s World Cup semi-finals in 2019.
In December, Jill invited a lucky group of budding young footballers from a number of schools in Washington and Jarrow that Variety supports with Sunshine Coaches to join her for a meet and greet session.
The excited children gathered in the clubhouse of Benfield Football Club in Newcastle upon Tyne, where Jill was hosting an advanced training day for her Soccer School for girls. Jill spoke about her achievements to date and her future ambitions before taking questions from them. Afterwards, a few of the children were thrilled to also be able to spend some time on the training field with Jill.
