The school provides for over 100 children aged 2 to 11 with special educational needs arising from a range of conditions. The new coach will be replacing the old one and will take children out into the community so that they could supplement the curriculum with real life functional experiences. Nevertheless, being able to visit and take part in the off sites sports activities will provide children with so many new learning opportunities, such as horse riding, swimming lessons and using adapted bikes at Manchester Park.

 Jacqueline Wheble, Deputy Headteacher said:

“We were thrilled to receive a very generous donation from Mr Michael Oliver, a local business man.  He met one of our staff driving one of the old minibus at the garage and then popped into one of our parent’s café and realised that he could help us.  So he has paid for a new Variety Sunshine Minibus which has been especially adapted to accommodate wheel chairs. Our existing minibuses were getting very old and kept breaking down.

Trips out into the community are crucial for our pupils to practice their social skills, communication and give them real life contexts for learning and Variety, the Children's Charity have really helped us to find a way of achieving this.

On Monday, 17th November some of our children, parents, teachers and governors gathered to celebrate this gift and thank both Variety and Mr Oliver for our new minibus.  A couple of our pupils thought they might like to drive the bus themselves!”
